For each boss, we wanted to have a parallel with one of the player characters. With the lightning boss, The goal was to create an imposing, wise opponent who guards a library. An owl came across quickly, to the point that we played with a few other ideas before agreeing that the owl was still best. I wanted to develop more elements into the design, so I took to making it mechanical. After playing around with a few hybrids, I was able to combine elements of an owl and a moth, and the golem-like facade added an immortal feeling to the creature.
